Glen Brittle and Loch Eynort forestry walk
THE CUILLIN AND MINGINISH
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1. From the car park go through the gate onto the forestry track. At the first junction turn right, doubling back on yourself as you ascend the hill. From here there are great views of Coire na Creiche backed by the Cuillin. Keep on this track for 2.5 kilometres until another junction is reached. Here turn left, ignoring the footpath sign, and continue gently uphill. The track starts descending after only 150 metres. After another 3 kilometres Loch Eynort is visible below.
2. At the next junction turn sharp right heading downhill more steeply. This track passes through more forestry before heading into more mixed woodland. The route bends left then right crossing a stream with dramatic waterfalls above and below. After a final bend to the left the track emerges onto a minor road at the foot of Glen Eynort. Follow the road left passing below a waterfall and then some houses.
3. Continue on the track, going through the gate. Along this flat section, through the trees the mudflats of Loch Eynort are visible, a great spot for birds. After 2.5 kilometres the track forks, take the main left branch which heads uphill. As you climb the hill ignore tracks coming in from the left and then right. Cross a bridge before reaching the Bealach Brittle with good views over Loch Brittle and Rubh an Dunain.
4. Follow the undulating track as it contours the slopes to the left. Several sections of forest have been cut revealing magnificent views of the Cuillin ridge. At the next fork take the left hand track heading slightly uphill. Eventually you will return to the first junction of the walk, continue on the main track to the right to return to the car park.
